INEOS Automotive has announced its collaboration with leading automotive supplier Magna to develop a new electric 4X4 vehicle. This comes after the confirmation in May 2022 of their commitment to a zero-emission model line. The electric 4X4 will be manufactured at Magna's facility in Graz, Austria. Lynn Calder, CEO of INEOS Automotive says, “This is an exciting moment for INEOS Automotive. Our all new electric 4X4 will be zero emission while offering customers exceptional off-road capability, without compromising on-road comfort or performance.” The zero-emission vehicle will be smaller than the INEOS Grenadier, with world class off-road performance capable of conquering the formidable Schöckl mountain close to Magna’s Austrian headquarters.
This new 4X4 by INEOS Automotive represents a distinct offering for customers. It will be a battery electric model that is smaller than the Grenadier, yet it will provide zero emissions and exceptional off-road capability without compromising comfort or performance on regular roads.
INEOS has worked with Magna previously on series engineering and development for the Grenadier station wagon and pick-up models. It is well placed to take on INEOS Automotive’s third model line and has signed an agreement to start production of the new 4X4 at Magna’s Graz, Austria facility in 2026. The development process for this vehicle will include rigorous testing on Austria's Schöckl mountain, conveniently located near Magna's complete vehicle assembly facility.
“Having worked together on the engineering of the Grenadier, we’ve seen first-hand the value of applying Magna’s agility, knowledge, and experience to a complete vehicle development programme. Deepening our collaboration is a natural next step as we use the Grenadier as a springboard for our continued growth as a global automotive brand with this third model line,” adds Lynn Calder, CEO of INEOS Automotive.
Magna, recognized as one of the largest automotive suppliers and independent contract manufacturers globally, operates a complete vehicle assembly facility in Graz. They produce various models, including conventional ICE, hybrid, and electric vehicles, for different automakers.
