Harwoods was established by Wally Harwood, father of Guy Harwood and was based at London Road Pulborough.
1965-1996, Guy began riding out for Ryan Price at Findon at the age of 18, Guy would go on to win 40 point to point winners and 14 National Hunt Races. Over the next few years he started working as a pupil assistant trainer to Bryan Marshall when he was 21 and five years later in 1965 he commenced training under permit.
Owned Petworth, Pulborough and Storrington Harwoods Garages during that time and went on to buy Coombelands Farm, where he developed Coombelands Racing Stables.
Guy joins the garage business full time during 1992. The size and profile of the Group is increased as is the investment and management structure.

William has joined Harwoods as the company chairman, to help steer our business towards our vision and a bright future. With a wealth of experience in the finance sector, William is currently Chairman of Ambac (UK) Ltd and of Allied Irish Bank UK plc. William is also Chair of the Board Risk Committee and NED on the Board of Citibank Global Markets Ltd, and a member of both the Audi and Remuneration Committees.
Archie grew up with the business and was officially appointed to the board of management in 2012 as Business Development Director before becoming CEO in 2018. As the original and passionate advocate of our transformation journey whilst he was CEO, Archie stepped into the role of Director in 2023 to work across the organisation supporting the CEO and leadership team with the intensification of focus on the delivery of measurable business benefits. In his spare time, Archie spends time with family and friends socialising, playing tennis and on ski's.
Guy, Harwoods' Finance Director since 2019, brings over 25 years of motor trade experience, including roles at premium manufacturers and top UK retailers. Formerly a co-owner of a successful dealer group, Guy has also served as Group Operations Director and Franchise Director. In his leisure time, he prioritizes family, cycling, and completing endurance challenges like triathlons and iconic rides such as London to Paris.
Nick has worked in the motor trade since 1997, and joined Harwoods in 2012 as Head of Business at Five Oaks Audi, before moving to Portsmouth Audi in 2013. Outside of work Nick fills his spare time socialising with friends and family, with the occasional game of golf.
Starting in the motor industry in 2004, Clare quickly ascended from Fleet Sales Administrator to Sales Executive, then to Business Manager. She held two F&I Development Manager roles for a large PLC Group before becoming Head of Business at Land Rover Portsmouth. Transitioning back to a Business Development Manager role at Honda UK, Clare focused on enhancing network profitability while completing a diploma in Counselling Skills and raising two sons. Passionate about people and growth, Clare joined Harwoods in January 2022 as Finance and Insurance Services Director. She aims to drive record profits and exceptional customer experiences across all sites. In her limited spare time, Clare enjoys watching films and walking her Rhodesian Ridgebacks on the Salisbury plain.
Gary has worked in the motor industry since 1995. He has worked with a multitude of Brands including Ford, Honda, Kia, Volvo and Jaguar Land Rover during his time He joined Harwoods in the summer of 2023. Outside of work Gary likes the outdoors and especially ‘bagging’ Munros and travelling to mountain ranges across Europe with his family. Gary also has an active interest in classic cars and the industries heritage.
James has worked in the Retail, Leisure and hospitality industries or over 30 years and took is first step into the automotive world when he joined Harwoods as the HR Director in March 2023. Outside of work James is a keen photographer and follows his team, Brighton & Hove Albion, around the country at weekends. James loves socialising with his family and friends and taking his dog for long walks in the evenings. James loves his travel and has driven across America from east coast to west.
Jon joined Harwoods in February 2022. Having had 25 years of Aftersales management experience at various levels from Service Manager to Divisional Director, his role as Aftersales Director draws on his experience and that of the team around him, to deliver the customer and colleague experience befitting of Harwoods and the brands we represent.
Jon prides himself on an ability to bring large teams together toward common goals ensuring a constant learning and improvement culture pervades.
James steps into the role of Divisional Director for our Jaguar Land Rover and BYD divisions at Harwoods, bringing with him an impressive 18 years of rich experience within the automotive industry. Beyond his professional achievements, James is a devoted family man, a husband and father to three daughters. Additionally, his passion for football shines through as an avid supporter of Manchester United. With a blend of expertise, personal values, and a shared love for the game, James embodies the vibrant spirit that enriches our team at Harwoods.
Amanda was brought up at Coombelands Racing Stables in Pulborough, where her father Guy Harwood trained over 1600 winners, 30 of which were at Group 1 Level including Champion racehorse Dancing Brave. Amanda rode successfully as an amateur jockey winning 90 races, and became the first lady to ride in the Champion Hurdle at the 1990 Cheltenham Festival. She also rode as an event rider, winning the three-day event at Punchestown in Ireland and represented England in Italy later that year. In 1996, Amanda took over the racehorse training licence at Coombelands Stables from her father Guy, and have since trained over 680 winners. Coombelands Racing Stables is a family run business, with her husband Mark and children Ryan and Emma taking an active part. Amanda takes much pride in providing a good service to our loyal owners and staff.
