Aston Martin is marking 60 years of its iconic association with the James Bond film franchise with the release of the DB12 Goldfinger Edition, crafted by its bespoke personalisation service, Q by Aston Martin. The brand’s rich cinematic history with James Bond began in 1964, when the Aston Martin DB5 made its debut in Goldfinger. Since then, this partnership has become a cornerstone of British automotive and film culture. The new DB12 Goldfinger Edition honours this legacy with a limited production run of just 60 cars, blending modern performance with subtle yet impactful references to Bond’s world.
A Legacy Born with Goldfinger
The relationship between Aston Martin and James Bond began with Goldfinger’s DB5, which is now one of the world’s most recognisable cars. The DB12 Goldfinger Edition continues this legendary lineage, fusing modern luxury and performance with the unmistakable essence of Bond. This special edition is not just a tribute to the past but a celebration of Aston Martin's evolution over its 111-year history, with the James Bond collaboration now spanning more than half of that time.
Design: A Tribute to Goldfinger
While the DB5 in Goldfinger was famously fitted with gadgets to aid Bond in his daring escapes, the DB12 Goldfinger Edition focuses on a more luxurious driving experience. Finished in the same Silver Birch paint that made the DB5 iconic, this DB12 makes an immediate statement. The car features striking 21” multi-spoke wheels in a unique silver hue with a diamond treatment finish, black brake calipers, bespoke gold side strakes, and a distinctive Aston Martin badge in silver with black enamel. A chrome ‘Q’ fender badge serves as a subtle nod to the marque’s bespoke Q service.
The interior echoes the opulence and style associated with the Bond franchise. The leather Sports Plus seats are crafted in the classic DB5 fluted design and feature a Prince of Wales check perforation pattern – a clear reference to James Bond’s signature tailored suits. This pattern is carried through the cabin, appearing on the door inserts, headliner, and etched on a unique treadplate. A polished sill plaque also commemorates the 60th anniversary of Goldfinger.
Gold accents elevate the car’s ultra-luxurious interior. The drive mode rotary dial, roller controls, and gear selector are all 18k gold-plated, drawing inspiration from the golden tracking device used in Goldfinger. Gold metal fibres are also woven into the 2X2 Twill Gloss Carbon Fibre trim, ensuring the vehicle’s design is as unique as its Bond heritage. For true fans of the franchise, a hidden detail lies in the ‘eight of hearts’ card embroidered onto the driver’s sun visor – a reference to Bond’s final hand in the famous Miami pool scene.
Exclusive Gifts for Owners
Each of the 60 owners of the DB12 Goldfinger Edition will receive a selection of bespoke gifts, tailored to the exclusivity of the vehicle itself. These include a custom car cover, a luxury key presentation box, and a Silver Birch Speedform model. Additionally, owners will receive a section of 35mm film from the iconic Furka Pass scene in Goldfinger, a 1/60 golden edition Aston Martin magazine, and a magnum of 2007 vintage Bollinger Champagne with four exclusive 007 glasses. These will be elegantly presented in a bespoke Globe-Trotter Air Cabin Case, designed to replicate the DB12’s Silver Birch body and Prince of Wales check interior.
