Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) Policy
Statement of Intent
Harwoods Limited (the company) is committed to ensuring the safety, health and welfare of its employees, contractors, customers, and members of public. The company promote a safe working environment and ensure sufficient resources are available to comply with its legal responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and current regulations. The maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment is one of its key objectives and this is undertaken through the implementation of company's OSH Management System.
The company aims to ensure its employees feel safe, happy, supported, and valued to ensure their wellbeing. This shall be achieved through the company setting realistic targets, maintaining good lines of communication, and providing continuous support. The company strives towards continuous improvement through its commitment to set OSH objectives that will achieve the annual targets. These shall be monitored by the company on a regular basis to ensure these are achieve within the set timescales. Suitable and sufficient control measures and resources shall be provided to ensure the safety, health, and wellbeing of members of public and other interested parties.
Management, supervisory and other personnel are appointed with overall responsibility for OSH and for the implementation of this Policy. They are expected to always set a good example.
The responsibility for safety lies with everyone – it cannot be delegated. Only by constant care and vigilance on the part of every employee can we ensure the safety and health of those for whom we are responsible for and ourselves.
The company’s Code of Conduct also details our guiding principles and behaviours, including our internal values. The first guiding principle in our Code of Conduct is that “We Treasure Our People and Our Customers”, which we are committed to keeping people safe and healthy.
Putting this Code into action, the company is committed to a continuing policy of providing a safe working environment and the wellbeing for all its employees. In achieving this, it intends to:
Seek to eliminate injuries, work related illnesses and the hazards that cause them.
Aim for every day to be an incident-free day, where all employees go home safely to their families.
Strive to reduce OSH-related risks, by addressing the risks that could cause serious harm or injury.
Consult employees on OSH matters and empower them to stop work and report if they believe something is unsafe.
Implement a wellbeing assistance programme to support and promote positive action and protect the value employees enjoy from a healthy and productive workforce.
Cooperate with our customers, contractors and other interested parties who come to our sites to reduce the OSH risks that affect them.
Review and maintain the company’s OSH Management System.
Comply with the law and other requirements to which we subscribe.
Continuously improve our process of monitoring, measuring, and reporting OSH performance.
Every employee has a legal responsibility to take reasonable care of their safety and health to ensure that their acts or omissions do not endanger their colleagues and others.
The cooperation and commitment of everyone is essential to establish and maintain effective OSH standards.
